This is also a very simple trick to use two versions of the same App without much difficulty. Uninstall the App once cloned. Download another version of the same App. Enjoy both versions of the App, one in the parallel space and another one in App Drawer. No one wants to pay for the same thing twice if they can avoid it, even if it's just a $0.99 app. If you've got more than one iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you may wonder whether you can install apps bought from the App Store on all of your devices for free or if you need to buy the app for each device.
iPhone App Licensing: The Apple ID Is Key
I've got good news for you: iOS apps that you've bought or downloaded from the App Store can be used on every compatible iOS device you own—as long as they all use the same Apple ID, that is.
App purchases are made using your Apple ID (just like when you buy a song or movie or other content). The purchase grants your Apple ID the rights to use that app. So, when you try to install or run that app, the iOS checks to see if the device you're running it on is logged into the Apple ID used to buy it originally. If it is, everything will work as expected.
Just make sure to log into the same Apple ID on all of your devices, and that the same Apple ID was used to buy all the apps, and you'll be fine.
Apps and Family Sharing
There's one exception to the rule about apps requiring the Apple ID that bought them: Family Sharing.
Family Sharing is a feature of iOS 7 and up that lets all the people in one family connect their Apple IDs and then share their iTunes and App Store purchases. With it, a parent can buy an app and let their kids add it to their devices without paying for it again.
To learn more about Family Sharing, check out these articles:

- How to Use Family Sharing.
Most apps are available in Family Sharing, but not all are. To check whether an app can be shared, go to its page in the App Store and look for the Family Sharing information in the Details section.
While apps, music, movies, and other content you buy from Apple can usually be shared using Family Sharing, in-app purchases and subscriptions aren't shared via Family Sharing. Those you do have to buy again.
Automatically Download Apps to Multiple Devices
One way to easily install apps on multiple devices is to turn on iOS's Automatic Download feature. With this, anytime you buy an app on one of your iOS devices, the app is automatically installed on other compatible devices. This uses data, so if you have a small data plan or like to keep an eye on your data usage, you may want to avoid this. Otherwise, follow these steps to turn on Automatic Downloads:
Tap Settings.
Tap iTunes & App Store.
In the Automatic Downloads section, move the Apps slider to on/green.
Repeat these steps on every device you want apps automatically added to.
Redownloading Apps from iCloud
Another easy way to get an app onto a device other than the one you bought it on is to redownload your purchases from iCloud. Every purchase you make at the iTunes and App Stores is stored in your iCloud account. It's like an automatic, cloud-based backup of your data that you can access whenever you want.
To redownload apps from iCloud, follow these steps:
Make sure the device you want to download the app onto is logged into the Apple ID used to buy the app originally.
Tap the App Store app.
Tap Updates.
On iOS 11 and up, tap your photo in the top right corner. On earlier versions, skip this step.
Tap Purchased.
Tap Not on This iPhone to see all apps you've bought that aren't installed here. You can also swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the search bar.
When you've found the app you want to install, tap the iCloud icon (the cloud with the down-arrow in it) to download and install it.
The answer is both Yes and No. It actually depends on how the app is coded. There are apps that can be opened in as many windows as you want. Then there are apps that won’t open another instance no matter how much you try. One such modern app in Windows 10 is Microsoft Edge. I tried to open the second instance of the app, but it won’t open. It just flashes the current window when I try to open another instance of Edge. But coming to Internet Explorer, it is easy to open second, third, and more windows. The same applies to some modern apps like Calculator, etc. Check how to open multiple instances of Windows Store apps in Windows 10.
Can you open multiple instances of Windows Store apps?
Why can’t some Store Apps open second instances in Windows 10
In some cases, it is a coding fault. The developers of apps that don’t open a second instance either forgot to implement the code or do not want other instances to run.
In some apps – traditional (like Photoshop) and Modern (example 3D Builder) – the facility to open another instance is deliberately stopped as it might mess up with what you are creating.
On the other hand, for apps like Mail, it is desirable to have multiple instances, but the developers either forgot or thought it was not necessary to provide users with the facility to open multiple instances. When you try to open a new instance of the Mail app in Windows 10, it reloads the entire app. I guess it is programmed in that way. But if you are using Microsoft Outlook, you can certainly open the program in a new window – as a new instance. Then you can have People view in one window and Inbox view in the other window.
In short, it depends on the developers to provide you with the facility of opening more than one instance of apps in Windows 10. They need to make use of the Windows 10 API to allow multiple instances of modern apps. Sources say that Microsoft is working on its modern apps so that they can open multiple instances for ease of use. For third-party apps, the company has issued a set of directives that help developers in using Windows 10 API for providing multiple instances of the same apps (link at the end of the post).
Using CTRL+N (File Menu > New) to open new instances
This trick works for traditional desktop type apps such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc. With the window open, press CTRL+N. Or press ALT or F10 to bring up the menu bar and select NEW from the File menu. That will create a new window with a fresh instance of the browsers running in them. Same applies to applications such as MS Word, Excel, etc. When you create a new file, it is always shown in a new window.
The trick may or may not work on Universal or Modern apps. For the Calculator, for example, I tried pressing CTRL+N, but it did not open a new instance. But there are other methods to check if an app will open another instance.
Using Taskbar Icons to open new instances
Another method to open modern apps like Calculator and traditional apps like File Explorer to open multiple instances is to use its icons in Taskbars. There are two methods here too.
Using Shift+Click
Place the cursor on the icon of the app whose second instance you wish to open. Press SHIFT and click on the icon. You will be presented with a fresh instance of the app. Currently, I could find the only Calculator among the Modern apps and a third party called “Hindi News” that can open multiple instances using this method. You can open as many instances of calculator type apps just by clicking on the item icon in the taskbar while holding down SHIFT.
Using Right-Click to open multiple instances of apps in Windows 10
You can also try right clicking on the icon of the app in the taskbar and then select the app name. For example, if you are trying to open a new instance of Calculator, right click on the Calculator’s icon and click on Calculator from the resulting context menu. Same way, you can open multiple instances of File Explorer. If you right click on the already open app icon in the taskbar, you will be presented with its name in the context menu. Clicking on the name will open another instance if the app supports multiple instances.
Two Of The Same Kind
The above explains how to open multiple instances of apps in Windows 10. Please note that a majority of metro (modern) apps do not yet support multiple instances for the following reasons:
- Developers are ignorant of Windows 10 API
- Developers don’t want users to open multiple instances for some reason
- Developers forgot to add the API feature
Rest assured, most of the Modern apps in the future will be able to open multiple instances as sources have confirmed that Microsoft is working on the issue. But it will also be dependent on individual developers and apps. If opening multiple instances can spoil the output, developers may not introduce the feature.
Read the Microsoft blog if you wish to see what it recommends for third-party developers who wish to allow multiple instances of apps in Windows 10.
